Our philosophy: the fine art of cross-border learning
Crossing borders is the maxim of the ISSK. We prepare our young learners, who
come together from various linguistic and cultural backgrounds to learn together
in an atmosphere of mutual respect.

Autonomous learning in a structured environment – the
principle of the SBW Haus des Lernens
The ISKK’s education programme is based on the didactic principle of the
SBW Haus des Lernens, a very successful provider for high quality private education
in Switzerland. More about the SBW Philosophy at www.sbw.edu or by mail info@sbw.edu.
The ISKK profits also from the experience of the ISSH (International School of
Schaffhausen), an international school founded by the SBW in 2000.This combination
of business and schooling expertise provides the guarantee for long-term viability
and the capacity for the school's development.

International thinking
The curriculum at an International School aims to produce “international
thinking human beings, who not only accept a world of cultural diversity, but
take an active part in its creation". We as an international school place the credo
of our work in harmony with the UNESCO: Humans are learning beings.

Humans are learning beings
Children develop their own learning styles as they grow up. It is the school’s
central task to provide a structured environment in which children can freely
develop their skills and natural talents. Thus, young people can acquire the necessary
knowledge and skills to find their position in life and to cope with changes constructively
using their own initiative.

Internationally recognized curriculum
The curriculum offers a suitable training ground especially for the children of
expatriates. The internationally recognized curriculum facilitates the integration
of these children back into school upon return to their former country. By the
way, we shouldn’t forget to mention that the programme also suits Swiss
and German children, whose parents would like to see their children brought up
in an international environment.

Motivation must come from within, but it must have a supporting
framework
Children are encouraged to become self-motivated learners. This encouragement
in a structured environment complements the principles of the "International
School`s Curriculum Project", which has been adopted at the ISKK. Motivation
must come from within, but it must also have a supporting framework. Our students
learn to recognize and value the fact that acquisition of knowledge and development
of the individual personality are inseparable.

Children and young adults can realize their full personal
and learning potential
Intelligence is a complex phenomenon. Abilities such as logical thought are just
as much a part of intelligence as emotional awareness, the power of judgment,
the ability to make decisions and social competence. Children and young people
can realize their full potential in a stress-free environment and according to
their individual learning needs. At the same time the children are encouraged
to strive for academic excellence. Teaching staff and students learn to
live the school day as a learning community.

Knowledge, self-discipline, goals and awarness
Self-motivated learning includes the acquisition of knowledge and goals to reach
out, as well as self-discipline and the fostering of awareness. These elements
are of equal importance and require each other for success.

Teaching and autonomous learning complement each other
As learning research and cognitive science have proven, each individual developes
his or her own way of learning. Thus, children and young people frequently learn
at different rates. Therefore, the Atrium is an environment, where young people
set their own goals, plan their own studies and work at their own rate. This eliminates
some of the fundamental problems of conventional classroom teaching. At the International
School Kreuzlingen Konstanz teaching and autonomous learning complement each other.
This combination provides the ideal framework for self-motivated learning. Within
the structured environment the students develop strengths, make improvements in
weak areas and explore their interests through a wide range of stimulating resources
and material.

Learning in order to act
This is a requirement for today`s world. Therefore, at the ISKK children and young
people find many opportunities to prove themselves in practical challenges and
in artistic or social projects. During this process students test the responsible
handling of resources on a playful basis, yet with education objectives in mind.

Respect yourself and your environment
We apply the principle of mutually supporting and respecting one another as different
personalities. In a structured environment students
learn directly how discipline works positively towards a common lasting benefit.
